The Punjab government has allowed integration of BCom-IT two years graduation programme into BCom-IT (Hons) four years programme

Lahore: The Punjab government has allowed integration of BCom-IT two years graduation programme into BCom-IT (Hons) four years programme. The BCom students having two years education can take admission in 3rd year of the BS 4-year programme. The BCom-IT has also been privatised and the students can appear as private candidates in the BCom-IT annual examination from the year 2010.

The facility to integrate the BCom annual and semester into 4 years degree has been provided in view of the Higher Education Commission's agenda to dispense with two-year degree programme and popularise the 4-year programme of BS (Hons) in arts, science and commerce.

The Hons programme is equal to that of MA and the Hons degree-holders are eligible to take admission in MS/MPhil leading to PhD. The 18 years degree is acceptable abroad and will help our youth in getting lucrative job in foreign countries.

Regarding the BA, BSc two years integration into BS (Hons) in arts and science, the decision is yet to be made. If decided the Punjab University's annual system in affiliated colleges will get integrated into BS (Hons) four years programme under PU semester system at the university level.

Meanwhile the Punjab government has finalised arrangements to introduce BS (Hons) programme in selected subjects at a number of colleges in the province from the academic session 2010 starting from September this year.

The sources in the education department said the admissions would be started after the Intermediate annual examination result in June/July 2010. The Punjab government has notified Punjab Higher Education Council (PHEC), a body which will bring uniformity in legislation, statutes, rules, and regulations pertaining to the universities of the province.

The Council will also ensure uniform policies of student ennoblement, fee structure, examination systems, and quality control mechanisms and out put parameters. The introduction of BS 4 Years (Hons) Programmes in public sector colleges in a pashed manner will also be carried out by the PHEC.

Secretary Higher Education Department Punjab will act as Chairman of the Punjab Higher Education Council while all the Vice Chancellors (VCs) of public sector universities of the province will be its members. The nation
