Students' supporting books
Gujarnwala: Teachers of private and state-run schools are forcing students of Class-IX and X to buy 'supporting books' of their favourite authors for the preparation of their annual examinations.

Some students and their parents on Wednesday said teachers threatened students who dared to defy their orders.

They said authors and publishers of these helping books reportedly hired the services of teachers who then forced students to buy them as these books were a 'guarantee' of success in the examination.

They said the chief minister had announced free education for all students, but the teachers were compelling students to buy expensive books.

District officer (secondary) education Syed Farman Ali Naqvi said nobody was allowed to sell helping books in schools or compelling students to buy such stuff. Dawn
